PHILADELPHIA -

Detectives are searching for a masked, armed robber who they say attempted to rob a grocery store in West Oak Lane.

The quick-thinking cashier drew his weapon as soon as the suspect demanded the cash and even fired two shots before the suspect fled the store.

Serrata Grocery Store, located at 7453 East Walnut Lane, has both internal and external security cameras, so police said they do have video and images of the suspect.

The attempted robbery took place Friday around 7:15 p.m. The suspect, wearing a black mask, dark green Northface coat, blue jeans and dark gloves, was last seen south on 75th Street then east through a driveway on the even side of 21st Street.

Police described the suspect as a light-skinned black male standing roughly 6 feet tall with a medium build.

Police urge citizens not to approach the suspect, who was armed during his attempted robbery, but to call 9-1-1 immediately.

To submit a tip, call 215-686-TIPS (8477) or text one to PPD TIP (773847). Anyone who has information about the suspect or crime can also call Det. Sellers at the Northwest Detectives Division by dialing 215-686-3353/3354.
