"It kind of blew me back like 10 to 15 feet and I had no idea what was going on," said Matthew Ianni. He's still in shock.
"I ran outside and slipped and fell. I tried to brace my fall and got some glass in my hand," he said. He was home during the explosion that rocked his Ewing Township neighborhood.
"It was just chaos outside. People were yelling and crying. Nobody knew what was going," said Matthew who has a cut up, bandaged hand. He says the glass front door of his house blew out just as he was leaving to go to work. In the commotion he rushed out to help his neighbors trying to escape with two young children.
"I'll always remember as I walked in and looked straight ahead and their television was on a stand but behind it the wall was gone."
The West Trenton Volunteer Fire Company is where Matthew and about 50-plus people who evacuated are spending the night. They're waiting to hear if and when they can return home. The Red Cross is helping people like Lin Yang and his family who may not get back in for some time.
"I'm getting some information from here. It takes a few hours to fix the power lines so I think I have to find a hotel to stay," said Yang.
People who live nearby are also pitching in to help.
"I have what I consider to be a decent size home and I'll house as many as I need to," said Shelly Liick, a volunteer.
Matthew is grateful for his minor cuts and is thinking about those who weren't as fortunate.
"I heard a woman wasn't lucky enough to get out alive and my thoughts and prayers go out to her family," said Matthew.
Rain at times expected tonight, Friday, and early Saturday. Another fall-like blast of cool weather to follow for the weekend.
Expect unsettled weather through Saturday morning as waves of showers and thunderstorms move through the area. Some of the storms may bring heavy downpours late tonight and again Friday afternoon.
Friday is still humid but by Saturday much cooler air moves in making it feel more like fall. Sunday is nice with a cool breeze and unseasonably low temperatures which last though early next week.
