Two dogs stolen during home invasion returned

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

The two French bulldogs — stolen Tuesday from a home in the Avondale neighborhood — were found wandering the streets by a good Samaritan, in the nick of time, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting.

"A man headed home from the laundromat found them near Humboldt Park just before the snowstorm hit Tuesday night," said David Wilk, the dogs' owner. "He saw a Craigslist ad I posted about our dogs and reached out to me."

Wilk and his husband, Charlie Gurion, 25 — both digital advertising executives — had been sleepless and in tears since the dogs were nabbed along with several electronic devices in a burglary at their home.

"I was like, ‘Literally, my spirit is cracked, I don't know how we can move forward if we don't have the dogs," Wilk said. "They are like our kids; we felt like two of our kids were kidnapped."

After posting fliers all day and checking animal shelters, the couple received the happy news and picked up their dogs Wednesday night, both of which were in good shape.

"We immediately just started bawling when we saw them," Wilk said. "Pierre fell asleep in Charlie's lap on the way home. I can tell Rue is a little timid right now. I feel like she's a little traumatized from being out in the cold, but she's coming around."

The do-gooder who returned the pups, a dog owner himself, wanted no reward.

"He didn't want a gift at all," Wilk said. "But we are going to back and give him some sort of cash reward."

The little dogs were being pampered Wednesday night.

"We are going insane crazy right now. We can't stop feeding them, petting them," Wilk said.
