Police Cars Vandalized In Police Parking Lot

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

More than a dozen police cars were vandalized overnight while they were in the parking lot of a Philadelphia police district.

The cars were damaged at the 6th District on North 11th and Vine streets in the city's Chinatown section.

FOX 29's Steve Keeley reports from the scene that at least 14 vehicles were allegedly damaged by a man wearing only boxers and boots with a hammer. He's now in custody.

There was lots of damage done in little time while it was still dark outside shortly after 5 a.m. Even the glass front doors of the 6th District were all smashed out.

And it happens while Keeley was reporting on how violent a 12-hour stretch had been from Tuesday afternoon into early Wednesday morning, with nine people shot, three of them killed.

In one case, a member of the force who had just made lieutenant found the back window of his new Chevy Tahoe busted with glass all over the new bars on his leather jacket.

"The incoming 7 am shift left with just 8 UNDAMAGED police cars to cover the streets for now," Keeley tweeted.
