NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Police in west suburban Naperville asked for the public's help on Tuesday in finding the driver of a hit and run vehicle that struck and injured a pedestrian over the weekend near the city's downtown, the Naperville Sun is reporting.

The incident occurred about 11:30 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Benton Avenue and Court Place, just east of Washington Street, said Police Sgt. Bill Davis.

Davis, in a release, said the pedestrian was walking east on Benton Avenue and crossing Court Place "when an unknown type, four-door vehicle turned south onto Court Place, striking the victim." Davis said the motorist "failed to stop and render aid, and continued south on Court Place, fleeing the area eastbound from Van Buren (Avenue.)"

The release did not include the pedestrian's gender, age or hometown. Paramedics took the victim to Edward Hospital in Naperville for treatment of what Davis said were "serious, but not life-threatening, injuries."

The nature of those injuries, and whether the pedestrian has been discharged from the hospital or remains there, was not immediately known.

Davis said police are seeking a small, white, possibly older-model, four-door vehicle "with possible front end damage. The driver of the vehicle may be a taller male with facial hair."

Witnesses to the crash, or those who believe they have information about the vehicle or its driver, are asked to call the police Traffic Unit, at 630-305-5379, or Naperville Crime Stoppers, at 630-420-6006.
