Prosecutors: 2nd Package In Hatboro Tested Positive For Ricin

Posted: Updated:
HATBORO, Pa. -

Investigators have now confirmed that a vial recovered as part of an investigation into a ricin case has in fact tested positive for the potentially-deadly biotoxin.

The second scare for a Montgomery County neighborhood came Thursday, one day after a man was arrested for allegedly sending a poison-laced card to a romantic rival.

The Bucks County District Attorney's Office is leading the investigation, and officials there now confirm that the second package, found stashed underneath a gas lid at a home on Byberry Road, did contain ricin.

That home is a block away from the apartment complex of 19-year-old Nicolas Helman, the suspect accused of sending the card to his ex-girlfriend's boyfriend.

The homeowner where the vial was stashed told FOX 29 News he was kept inside for about two hours. Authorities said they had the situation under control and sent the package away for further testing.

Helman was already charged with attempted murder in the first-degree.
