A flag flap in Portland, Oregon almost gets a woman booted from her apartment.
Elodia Royce received a letter from her landlord last week ordering her to take down a U.S. flag from her window. They say it's a violation of her lease at the apartment complex because colored drapes are prohibited.
Upon hearing the news she may be evicted, Royce says she felt "a lot of worry and stress about what will happen."
Jennie Clark, an attorney who's not connected to the case, says the lease is confusing. "It looks like she had prior approval to hang the flag. The contract doesn't state whether or not they can withdraw approval, and so in that sense the contract is vague."
After a public dust-up, the landlord apologized and has offered to let her fly the stars and stripes on her lawn. "I asked her, ‘When will you do this?' and she said, ‘We'll do it within the next couple of weeks," Royce says.
Royce credits the media for bringing attention to her story.
