Couple Charged In Kidnapping And Robbery Of Elderly Woman

West Philadelphia -

Police say Vickson Korlewala, 57, and his wife Lorpu Korlewala, 51, are in custody and charged with robbery kidnapping conspiracy and related offenses.

Fox 29's Jennifer Joyce reports.

According to police, the man you see in this surveillance video is Vickson Korlewala who is accused of abducting an 80-year-old woman , tossing her into a car, driving her to Citizens Bank at Penrose Plaza and forcing her to take out $8,000, which he stole from her before dumping the elderly woman out of the car. Police say Korlewala was working with his wife who has also been arrested and charged.

Police officers in the 18th Police District spotted the suspect's car, a green-colored Saturn SUV with New Mexico plates, as described by the witness. Officers pulled the vehicle over along the 5300 block of Market Street.

Police say Korlewala and his wife also match the description of suspects wanted in a similar kidnapping and robbery that happened in February at 20th and Market Streets. The victim in that case was 92 years old. Police say these suspects used the same M.O. and the same vehicle.

"Anytime you have an elderly victim and someone who is taken advantage of like this we charge pretty hard to get these people off the streets although you have 2 victims here there may be others victimized by these individuals," Police Lieutenant John Walker said.

Police say they have executed a search warrant on the couple's home as well as at a salon that they own on the 5500 block of Market Street. So far, police have not recovered the victim's money.
