Septa Holds Emergency Meeting For Union Contacts

Posted: Updated:

Septa's largest union has set an emergency strike meeting tonight.

So far there's been no authorization to strike by members of local 234, which represents about 5500 bus drivers, subway, trolley workers and mechanics.

Today both sides will be back at the bargaining table to negotiate and hopefully avoid a work stoppage.

The last of three union contracts expires at midnight on Sunday.

Septa Spokesman states, "Although SEPTA management still hopes to avoid a work stoppage, we are preparing updated materials to advise the public what service will be available if the city and suburban divisions of TWU 234 decide to strike on April 7.  This material will be, mostly likely, released on Friday."
