Rat problem forces closure of Dunkin' Donuts location

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - A Dunkin' Donuts in Manhattan was shut down by the Health Department and video posted to YouTube by a Bronx resident shows why.

A rat could be seen nibbling a croissant and making its way through the pastry display.

The man told the NY Daily News he shot the video using his cell phone at about 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the 37th St. and 8th Ave. location.

"Towards the end, there were seven to nine joining the festivities," the man told the News.

Rodents are familiar sights across New York City, but the problem at this particular eatery was so bad that the health department closed it down citing a "severe rodent infestation."

Dunkin' Donuts issued the following statement in response to the video and closure of the location:

"The health and safety of our guests is our top priority and we take this matter very seriously. We are working closely with our franchisee and the New York City Department of Health to correct the issues addressed during the inspection. We look forward to reopening the restaurant as quickly as possible."
