Victim's Mom Speaks Out After Attempted Kidnapper's Sentencing

PHILADELPHIA -

It's hard to forget this video of a brave 10-year-old escaping from a would-be kidnapper in South Philadelphia in 2012.

Now, the man behind this horrifying incident could spend up to 34 years in prison.

Carlos Figueroa-Fagot learned his fate Friday. In addition to the attempted kidnapping charges, he'll serve time for five other related crimes.

The mother of the victim was in court for Friday's sentencing.

Speaking with FOX 29 News, she says she's satisfied with the outcome, but the trauma from the crime remains with her family.

"The justice system worked in our favor. There are so many people, kids who don't get that type of justice," said the victim's mother, Joanne Payne.

"None of us are anywhere near what we used to be. The ease of life before is no more. Everything is different. Nobody's trusted. Everybody's an outsider."

Payne says she hasn't worked in more than a year in order to keep watch over her children.
