Students, Parents Sound Off On School Lunch Changes

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Some students are sounding off about First Lady Michelle Obama's push for smaller lunch portions at school. It's part of her anti-obesity initiative.

But some of the kids say they're hungry, many of them taking to social media to express their frustration.

On "Good Day Philadelphia" Monday morning, we took a look at some of the tweets students are posting.

"All we get for lunch today. Thank you Michelle Obama," said one photo post.

Another student simply tweeted thanks with a picture of what looks like a ham and cheese wrap – with one slice of cheese and one piece of lunch meat.

A parent joined in on the conversation sharing a picture with a caption that reads: "My school lunch while eating with my daughter. My only other choice was a scoop of salad. This is sad!"

A group of high school kids went as far as to make a video to show just how hungry they are. This song, titled "We Are Hungry," has over a million hits on YouTube. It's a play on "We Are Young" by the music group Fun.
