Card skimmers found at LIRR ticket machines

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Credit card reading devices and tiny hidden cameras attached to ticket vending machines were discovered at the Baldwin train station during a routine inspection last week, said the Long Island Rail Road.

MTA police are investigating and have reportedly identified a suspect.

LIRR customers are urged to check their credit or debit card statements or to contact their bank for any unauthorized activity.

"The LIRR and the MTA Police will continue regular monitoring of TVMs and we ask the riding public to help by keeping their eyes open and reporting any suspicious activity at our stations," said MTA spokesman Salvatore Arena.

Last year similar devices were used to steal financial information from several LIRR customers at stations on the Port Washington line. A Queens couple pleaded guilty to conspiracy and larceny charges in that case last week.

The MTA Police Department asks anyone with information regarding TVM fraud to contact the MTA Police Communications Division at (718) 361-2247.
