NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Several vehicles drove over metal auto transmission components that fell from the back of a dump truck and littered miles the New York State Thruway on Tuesday overnight, New York State Police said.

At least 10 cars became disabled and stuck on I-95, I-287, and I-87 beginning at about 2 a.m. April 8, 2014, police said. No one was hurt.

State troopers responding to emergency calls from the damaged cars followed the trail of sharp debris all the way to Route 17 in New Jersey, where the driver of the dump truck had stopped.

Police said the rear gate of the 1999 Kenworth dump truck, owned by Affordable Materials in Stamford, Conn.

Authorities charged the driver, John A. Robinson, 51, of Bridgeport, Conn., with aggravated unlicensed operation for having seven suspensions in New York on his Connecticut license, a log book violation, and failing to secure the cargo he was hauling.

The dump truck owner was called in to take it away, while emergency crews cleaned up the debris from 30 miles of roads both New York and Connecticut, police said.
