Off-Duty Police Officer Stabbed During Home Invasion

Police are investigating a stabbing of an off-duty officer during a home invasion Friday afternoon in the city's Kingsessing neighborhood.

The stabbing occurred at 12:45 p.m. at the officer's home on the 1000 block of South 54th Street.

According to police, a 30 year-old man broke in through a rear dining room window. He then struggled with the officer and assaulted her.

The officer was stabbed in the arm but she was able to drive herself to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where she is listed in stable condition.

Police said the suspect was apprehended at 55th and Warrington streets. A weapon was not recovered.

It's unknown if the officer and suspect are known to one another, police said.
