Wet Snow, Freezing Temperatures Possible After Rain

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

It's mid-April, and here we are talking about wet snow for some of us!

At dinnertime, we're looking at some heavy rainfall on Ultimate Doppler Radar as well as some cold air rushing in behind that. Some of us will see some of that rain changing over to wet snow, FOX 29 Chief Meteorologist Scott Williams says.

We did have some severe storms roll through Philly and its suburbs Tuesday afternoon, and there are some flooding concerns for parts of the area.

Temperatures will be dropping into the 50s by dusk, and lower by midnight. Don't be surprised to see a wet snowflake near Philadelphia, moving toward the Trenton area.

But that precipitation is moving out of here as that cold air rushes in.

"We're not anticipating major problems, and mind you temperatures as of late have been in the upper-70s and low-80s," Williams said. "So, we're really too warm on those road surfaces to cause any problems."

Temperatures will be tumbling below freezing pretty much area-wide. By 7 a.m., our FOX 29 Futurecast shows temperatures at 30 degrees in Philadelphia, the 20s in many suburbs, and even the low-20s in the Poconos.

As a result, a Freeze Warning is in effect for most of the area.

"Protect those sensitive plants as well as tender vegetation because, with temperatures below freezing, you're looking at damage or the likelihood of those plants being killed," Williams said.

So after an inch or more of rainfall on this damp and dreary Tuesday, and then that brief burst of snow, we are – fortunately – talking about a warmup.

We may stay in the 40s Wednesday, but we're in the 50s for the rest of the workweek, then the 60s on Saturday, when there could be scattered showers, and for Easter Sunday.

That trend of 60-degree weather looks to carryover into next week.

Video games may be pure fantasy, but a violent action-adventure game called "Watch Dogs" has ignited a very real debate in one South Jersey community. Watch Dog allows players to adopt the persona of a James Bond-like computer hacker, chasing an evil mastermind. People say it's chock-full of foul language, sex and violence, features dark and foreboding backdrops. The latest version, which is due out this fall may be set in Camden.
