Man With 8 Prior DUIs Pleads Guilty In Deadly Crash

Posted: Updated:

A Chester County man who had eight prior DUI arrests has pleaded guilty in the death of a motorcyclist.

Robert Landis was charged with homicide by vehicle for driving under the influence when he hit and killed Liam Crowley.

The two crashed last April at the intersection of Route 202 and Stanton Avenue in Westtown Township.

After the hearing, Crowley's family spoke about new proposed legislation to increase the penalty for repeat DUI offenders, who go on to kill someone while driving drunk.

Crowley's mother says everyone can do more to prevent tragedies.

"Do whatever you have to do," Diane Crowley said. "Take their keys, call the cab and pay for it, or drive them home yourself. Do whatever it takes to keep them from getting behind the wheel. Driving under the influence and tolerating others doing it has to become socially unacceptable."

Landis will be back in court for sentencing next month.

Liam Crowley was 24 and a volunteer firefighter when he was killed last year.
