Police Search For Serial Robber In Northeast Philadelphia

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Police are searching for a serial robber who they say is wanted in a string of hold-ups at local stores in the city's Oxford Circle section.

Fox 29's Sabina Kuriakose has the report.

According to police, he hit 6 different retail stores in the Northeast in just one month.

Now a $2,500 dollar reward is being offered to get this thief off the street.

"If you look at the video, you can't tell if this guy is an employee or a shopper or what because of the way he walks into the manager's office just from the video itself gives no indication this guy is robbing the place when in fact he is," said Lieutenant John Stanford.

Lt. Stanford says the alleged thief approaches individual employees and asks for help. Then he forces them into the manager's office and demands cash from the store safe. According to police, the suspect says he has a gun, but never actually shows one.

"It's disgraceful. It's horrible that they can't even go into a store," one shopper said.

An Acme on Roosevelt Boulevard was hit last week in the middle of the afternoon as customers shopped for groceries. However, that time the thief left empty handed when he became frustrated when the employee started crying.

Regular shoppers say they should be able to shop in peace.

"We want to get this person of the street before he elevates this to harming someone or showing a gun," Lt. Stanford said.

So far police say the man seen on surveillance has made off with $75,000 in cash and merchandise.
