Make-A-Wish Foundation Fulfills Boy's Wish To Fly Like Iron Man

Posted: Updated:

A young boy suffering from a rare disease had a very special wish granted on Tuesday.

Max Vertin, 8, of Hastings, Nebraska, suffers from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a genetic disorder characterized by progressive muscle degeneration and weakness, according to mda.org.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation flew Max and his family to Colorado where Max got to suit up and fly like his favorite superhero, Iron Man, at an indoor skydiving facility.

His mother was moved to tears.

"I have him here. I have him every day and we laugh and we play, and we have so much fun. So I am happy. It's a good day. I guess it just kind of all came crashing down on me,' said Betty Vertin.

Max's family were told he would be in a wheelchair by the age of 9.

His mother says while he's still walking they're in the process of getting measurements for his first wheelchair.

Max and his two brothers are all affected by the disease.
