Bicyclist Recovering After Collision With Deer

Allen Kinkead,65, is beat up pretty badly after his bicycle accident last week.

He has broken vertebrae in his neck and lower back, several cracked ribs, a slight concussion and road rash.

However, he wasn't hit by a car, he was actually run into by a deer.

Kinkead says he was out for a ride with five other people when out of nowhere a deer darted across the road and slammed right into him.

He doesn't remember any of the impact, but his friends witnessed the whole thing.

“When I woke up on the pavement, somebody was standing over me and said you were t-boned by a deer," Kinkead said. "I’ve seen deer, I’ve had deer cross the road in front of me, but you don't, you just don't think of a deer running over you."

Kinkead believes his helmet saved his life.

The deer ran off after the collision.

The bike is damaged but can be repaired.

I'm not able to do much of anything, I can walk, I can talk, I can stand, I can sit although the transitions a little rough, and I’m not allowed to lift anything heavy," said Kinkead.

Kinkead plans to ride again once he is healed.
