Firefighters Rescue Man Trapped Between Two Buildings

Posted: Updated:
Lexington, KY-Kentucky fire officials received an unusual call on Sunday when a young man became trapped between the walls of two downtown Lexington buildings.

A police dispatcher was walking into a building shortly before 7 a.m., and heard someone yelling for help.

Fire investigators say that's when they learned the man was stuck in a 14-18 inch gap between the buildings.

The man reportedly fell about 20 ft. into the narrow space behind the police department.

"This was a very unusual call," said Maj. Daniel Bellot. "This was a difficult situation because it was a really narrow area for our firefighters to work and get equipment in. We ended up having to use a couple of folding ladder that actually narrow.”

Bellot also said that the man was alert and was able to communicate.

"He is very lucky that he is alive, he's also very lucky that somebody was able to hear him screaming for help," he explained.

Bellot said it appears the man slipped and fell.

Police believe the young man was stuck for at least five hours.
