Violent Crash On Roosevelt Blvd. Leaves Several People Injured

Posted: Updated:
Three children are among the several people injured in an accident on Roosevelt Boulevard.

It happened at the Devereaux Avenue intersection around 7 pm Friday evening.

The inner southbound lanes and Devereaux across the boulevard have been closed while police hold the scene for investigators.

We don’t know the extent of the injuries, but police said some of the victims were in critical condition.

Two badly mangled cars told the horrific story of an accident on one of the area’s most dangerous roadways.

One man too shaken up to go on camera told Fox 29 his mom and two sisters were inside this car that ended up in the center island.

Authorities said at least eight people were rushed to the hospital, some of them children.

“It’s just a lot of chaos. There were about four ambulances, just a lot of people going crazy," witness Kimberly Beaulieu said.

Beaulieu said she just missed the accident.

"As soon as you see something your heart throbs, and you’re thinking of the people involved. It’s very scary," she said.

She said an eyewitness told her that one of the vehicles ran a red light, striking the other car.

There are no red light cameras at this intersection.

Recently state lawmakers have been discussing putting speed camera on the boulevard, but Beaulieu is skeptical.

“I don’t even think that’s going to help, that’s how bad this boulevard is," she said.

The speed limit of this stretch is 40 miles per hour.

Plenty of debris near the scene from previous accidents shows the scars of the boulevard.

“It’s scary. This boulevard is horrible. There’s always traffic. There’s so many accidents. Nobody pays attention to anybody. Everybody thinks they’re on the street by themselves and they don’t care about other people," Beaulieu said.

Police said they’re investigating if drinking played a role in the accident

The cause remains under investigation.
