Two Dogs Found In Abandoned Home

Posted: Updated:

Two dogs were found in an abandoned house in Terre Haute, Indiana.

The pit bulls found were covered in blood along with most of their teeth missing. Officials believe they may have been used as bait in a dog fighting ring.

Although the breed has a bad reputation of aggression, experts say it's not the nature of the dog, but the way they were raised.

"It seems we have an overpopulation of pit bulls in the entire country, so that dog has become one of the most disposable breeds there is right now, “said Code Enforcement Officer Laurie Tharp.

“And unfortunately, it's very sad when these dogs come in, and because of the way they were raised, they have to pay the ultimate price and lose their life because a human didn't do what they were supposed to do," she added.

There is no word on why the house was abandoned.

Vigo County Prosecutors had cited the owner for animal cruelty, but when the Vigo County prosecutor saw the photos of these two animals, he upgraded the charge to a Class A misdemeanor.
