Suspect in hammer attacks in custody

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - The individual wanted in at least 3 hammer assaults is in NYPD custody, Fox 5 News. The NYPD believes Anthony Coward, 28, is the man responsible for carrying out those heinous assaults and robberies over the last few weeks in Brooklyn and Queens.

In the latest attack, investigators believe Coward approached a 32-year-old man from behind at the Rockaway Avenue C train station in Bedford-Stuyvesant Wednesday morning and hit him on the head with a hammer.

The victim fell to the ground and the suspect demanded his money. Once the victim handed over the cash, Coward fled, police said.

The suspect carried out a similar attack on Sunday and in Queens on a pregnant woman last month.

The NYPD released a photo of the suspect taken from surveillance video.
