COKATO, Minn. – A crib once intended for her baby has a new purpose. It's a touching surprise for a grieving mother.
Valerie Watts's son, Noah, was delivered stillborn. After delivery, she had been holding onto his crib and was having a hard time letting go of it.
But she later agreed to sell it in a garage sale.
She told the couple who purchased it about her tragic loss, and they decided to do something special for the mother.
The crib was converted into a beautiful bench.
"His wife was there looking through my garage sale, at some of the baby clothes, and asked how old my son was, since I don't use the crib anymore and the clothes were little. And I told her that he had passed in July," Watts said.
"And then we decided on the way home that, you know, this bench is going back," said the craftsman, Gerald Kumpula.
The crib-turned-bench was returned to the mother two weeks after the garage sale.
The mother says the random act of kindness proves there are good people in the world.
