Mayfair Tire Slasher Sentenced To 2 Years Probation

Posted: Updated:

Mayfair- A self-proclaimed neighborhood watchman learned his fate after slashing dozens of tires in Philadelphia's Mayfair section.

His punishment, probation and a fine.

For a long time, car owners in the Mayfair neighborhood didn't feel safe parking their cars on their own street because someone kept slashing their tires.

It turns out the man accused of the crime was their own neighbor.

People in the neighborhood say their furious he won't be serving hard time.

“I was a little disappointed because I had to be in school at 8 o‘clock and it was 7:45, and I obviously couldn't drive to school,” said Sam Gibson.

Gibson recalls finding her car tire slashed one morning two years ago, which was one of more than 50 cars vandalized in a rash of slashings plaguing the Mayfair neighborhood.

David Toledo spoke out two years ago against the serial tire slasher targeting his block as well.

On Monday, 46-year-old David Toledo was sentenced to 2 years probation and ordered to pay just over 900 dollars restitution after a bizarre twist in which prosecutors alleged he was behind the slashings.

Betrayed neighbors call his sentence a bad joke.

His attorney says Toledo was forced to move out of the neighborhood because people who live there started harassing him.

Fox 29 found him living on Crestor Street.

However, relatives who came to the door didn’t want to talk.

Toledos’ attorney points out his client was acquitted of most of the charges.
