Boy,15, Accused Of Beating Foster Mother

Posted: Updated:

WEST PHILADELPHIA- Police say a 15-year-old allegedly beat his foster mother, who is in her 70s, with several objects in West Philadelphia on Monday.

According to police, the incident occurred on the 400 block of North Daggett Street.

"He strikes her with a metal table in the chest, knocking her to the ground. He then hits her with a picture frame, then drags her from the front portion of the house towards the stairwell that goes down into the basement," said Philadelphia Police Lieutenant Johnny Walker.

Lt. Walker also says the teen hit the victim with another picture frame and poured an unknown liquid on her.

Police say it stemmed from an argument over the boy's curfew.

According to investigators, after the alleged beating the teen then grabbed the keys around her neck and stole her vehicle for a joy ride, leaving the victim identified as, Maime Chess, bleeding in the home.

"I think it's sad. she's a wonderful woman. She’s a Christian woman. She’s a family oriented woman. She comes out of her house for two reasons, to go to church and to go to the market," said a neighbor.

The victim is at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in critical but stable condition.

Police also say the teen suspect took the vehicle into Tredyffrin Township and crashed into another vehicle there injuring two people on Diamond Rock Road between Yellow Springs Road and Horse Shoe Trail.

He was picked up by investigators. According to police, the suspect is now facing attempted murder charges, along with aggravated assault and robbery charges.
