Bear Sighting Prompts Road Closure In Bensalem

Police say a bear sighting Friday morning led to a temporary road closure in Bucks County.

Bensalem police reported that they were blocking Bensalem Boulevard at the Pennsylvania Turnpike overpass to let the bear cross the road safely.

Police reported around 9:15 a.m. that they were waiting for the Game Commission to arrive.

Later, the department posted to its Facebook page, "We lost sight of the bear and are monitoring the area. We ask residents to cover their trash, cover their grills and take any other precautions necessary."

Police did manage to have some fun with the situation as it unfolded. Initially, they asked residents to "keep your picnic baskets inside please."

When they were unable to locate the bear again, they joked that it was "apparently smarter than the average police officer."
