NYC Councilman Creates First Lactation Station In His Office

Posted: Updated:
New York, NY -

New York City is full of bus stations, train stations, subway stations, and now one city councilman's office is adding "lactation stations" to that list!

So you're in downtown Bed Stuy, Brooklyn shopping and you need to breast feed or express milk but you don't want to do it in public.

Well now you have a private place to go.

You can head to the community lactation station.

This is a room equipped with two comfortable chairs and a breast pump.

Brooklyn's first 'community lactation room, is getting a great response.

City Councilman Robert Cornegy and his wife came up with the idea after their personal experiences.

The couple has six children and had gotten negative comments when his wife breast fed in public.

So now the councilman has a lactation room at his office in Bed Stuy where any mom can comfortably and privately breast feed or express milk.

They can even store it in a refrigerator while they shop or run errands.

The councilman says, so far, about 50 moms have used the room.

Councilman Cornegy is hoping the idea catches on with other elected officials, who will do the same in their districts.
