Kidnapped Nigerian Girls Reportedly Located But Not Rescued

Posted: Updated:

NIGERIA- Nigeria's military has reportedly located nearly 300 school girls who were kidnapped by Islamic extremists.

But military officials fear that rushing in and using force to free the girls could get them killed.

For now, they're not revealing where the girls are being held.

"The good news for the girls is that we know where they are but we cannot tell you. We cannot come and tell you military secrets,” said Air Marshall Alex Badeh, Nigeria’s Chief of Defense.

The students were seized by Boko Haram militants from a remote northeastern school on April 14th.

The terror group has threatened to sell the kidnap victims into slavery if Nigeria's president does not free detained insurgents.

Dozens of protesters have gathered in Nigeria's capital, calling on their government to rescue the girls.

Nigeria's president and military have come under fire for their slow reaction to the mass abduction six weeks ago.

Critics saying the government's response to the crisis has been inadequate.

``Those are signs of a failed government, a lazy government, a government that has being defeated, a government that has abdicated its responsibilities," said protestor, and university teacher, Ekiyor Welson.

Nigeria is finally accepting international help this month, including assistance from the U.S.

A senior U.S. Defense official tells Fox News that reports the kidnapped girls have been located cannot be independently confirmed.
