Abington Couple Charged After Woman Allegedly Uses Fake Bill At Water Ice Stand

Posted: Updated:
ABINGTON, Pa. - An Abington husband and wife are facing charges after an incident that started at a Rita's Water Ice on Easton Road in Glenside. Police say 35-year old Angela Mazzoni handed a fake $10 bill to a cashier there last Wednesday.

"After she left the employees looked at it and realized it was a counterfeit and they called Abington Police," said Deputy Chief John Livingood.

Employees said the woman allegedly had a little girl with her, paid and told them to keep the change.  They determined the bill was fake so a worker reportedly took a picture of the woman's license plate and they eventually called police.

"Independent of that, we had already been involved in an investigation involving the same woman who passed that bill and her home address so this was a piece of information that tied it all together," said Deputy Chief Livingood. Police would not say why they had been previously investigating the woman but they got a search warrant a day after the incident.  What they found resulted in the arrest of Angela Mazzoni and her husband 35-year old David Mazzoni.

"We found about 265 of those counterfeit $10 bills and along with that about $8000 in legitimate U.S. currency," said police.

Fox 29 went by the house and a man who identified himself as David Mazzoni said he didn't have a comment, that they had children inside and he'd retained a lawyer. Both are charged with criminal conspiracy, possession of instruments of crime and two separate counts of forgery. Police said they did not find any m
oney printing, copy or pressing equipment inside the home and they do not know the origin of the money.
David Mazzoni's lawyer, Fortunato Perri Jr. said his client maintains his innocence and they are reviewing the allegations. He is only representing the husband in this case.
