Bear Still Roaming Bucks County Neighborhoods

CHALFONT, Pa. -

Police recorded incredible video while on an unusual call. It shows a huge bear putting on quite the show in a neighborhood on Tower Hill Road in Bucks County.

"It was just strolling along. It was really weird," said Brian Reproach, who also says the bear was a little too close for comfort. "You got like the ones right here and you see can see the claws and everything."

He showed FOX 29 where the bear left footprints Wednesday in the garden on his front lawn and the picture he took of it sitting there.

"It's kind of cool to see the wild up close like that too," he said.

The bear was a wake up call for neighbors. It showed up around 6 a.m. Wednesday.

"My wife actually saw the bear first and kind of screamed. He was kind of walking like he owned the place," said Bruno Ventresca.

New Britain Township Police and Chalfont Borough Police kept people away from the bear until it wandered off into a wooded area.

Sergeant Robert Milligan with Chalfont Police said, "Do not approach the bear and do not try to feed the bear. It is a wild animal."

Still, most say it's exciting to see.

"The most we see around here in Chalfont a peacock or a deer," said Amanda Sergeyev. She says she's now on bear watch. "That was a big news around school that there's a bear in my neighborhood," she said.

We were told by police Thursday morning that the bear was actually tracked to a wooded area Wednesday night, the game commission was out here, and they tranquilized the bear, and still it was able to get away. The bear evaded police and the game commission and was reported to be back on the loose Thursday morning.

Officials say he's an adult bear weighing several hundred pounds, and he's fast. He was seen in the Lexington Avenue and Britain Wood Circle areas, and the last spotting was around 1 a.m. Thursday in the area of the Chalfont Village Shopping Center, apparently sniffing in a trash container.
