Police Investigate String Of Sexual Assaults In Mayfair

Posted: Updated:
Police say they are looking for a suspect who may be connected to a series of sexual assaults in the city’s Mayfair section.

According to police, the latest sexual assault happened late Wednesday night near 5700 Roosevelt Boulevard.

Police say the victim was dragged behind a local church, sexual assaulted, punched in the face and suffered several injuries during the attack.

The series of attacks have women in Mayfair looking over their shoulders.

“Three times it could be a fourth time soon. They gotta find the person who's doing it,” said resident Joan Fleisch.

“It makes me sad and upset and scared for myself,” said Michele Campbell.

Joan Fleisch and Michele Campbell walk together these days since the attacks started 4 weeks ago.

“More worried for my children than myself,” said Sheryl Ulmer. “Our world is not safe.”

Ulmer carries mace everywhere she goes these days after she heard about the two prior attacks. According to police, one attack happened in the 3200 block of Disston and another just 5 blocks away on Wellington Street.

In all three incidents, police say, the suspect approached women after 11 p.m., in the same area, walking up from behind. In at least two of the attacks, the suspect placed something sharp against the victims’ necks and threatened them, according to police.
