Family Wants Justice For Ridley Park Hit-And-Run Victim

Posted: Updated:
RIDLEY PARK, Pa. -

Still no arrests six weeks after a teenager was struck by a hit-and-run driver in the Ridley Park area.

Meanwhile, police said they’re closing in on putting the person responsible behind bars.

Fox 29's Drew Dickman spoke with victim’s family, who says they’re running out of patience.

It's been six weeks of agony for 18-year-old Christopher Brooks.

“He has an amputation and it’s not quite healed yet, right at the knee and he has some open wounds on there that are trying to heal so they can close the area," his aunt Terri Brooks said.

Besides losing a leg, Brooks’ aunt and uncle said the high school senior is also battling a brain injury and swollen organs at Crozer Chester Medical Center.

“It’s going to be a long, long road. He’ll probably be here for another couple more months and then eventually long term rehab to get his strength back," Terri Brooks said.

Police said a drunk driver hit Brooks while he was biking home from his girlfriend's on Chester Pike the night of April 21st.

Surveillance video showed the suspect’s vehicle just before striking Brooks.

Investigators said they know who the driver is and tracked her damaged truck all the way to Virginia.

His aunt and uncle said the teen can’t remember much from that night, and struggles with why someone would do something like this.

“It hurts him because they should come forward. If they commit a crime they got to pay for it. You gotta do what you gotta do, you know," uncle Jeffrey Brooks said.

Brooks ran track and one day hoped to join the Navy, but his injuries from the crash have made that goal much more difficult.

His family wants the person responsible for changing his future, to be held accountable.

“It’s not going to take away the fact of what happened to Christopher, but I really want to stress the importance, do not drink and drive," Terri Brooks said.

Ridley Park Police said they’re just waiting for charges to be approved by the Delaware County District Attorney 's Office before making an arrest.

They're hoping to have her in jail by the end of the week.

They said she has hired a lawyer and is not cooperating with police.
