New Jersey State Police Search For Home Invasion Suspect

BRIDGETON, N.J. - New Jersey State police are searching for a man who they say broke into an Upper Deerfield Township home and assaulted the 68-year-old woman inside.

Police say on Tuesday, June 3rd around 12:53 p.m., a man forced his way through the rear door of the Landis Avenue home. Police believe the suspect thought the homeowner was not home.

According to authorities, once inside the suspect  demanded money from the homeowner.

A brief struggle ensued before the suspect threw the woman to the floor, police say. She was able to flee the scene when the suspect went into another room.

"She was actually hiding in her house, and encountered him and she was trying to get out and he asked where the money was and that time she said she didn't have money. She grabbed him and he was trying to force his way into her room they struggled and he was able to throw her to the ground," said New Jersey State Police Detective Dan Coia,

Police describe the suspect as a black male, age 20-30, 6-6'4", 175-200 pounds, black hair, and a black and grey goatee.

Police believe the suspect fled the scene driving a tan or gold sedan, possibly a Toyota Camry.

Meanwhile, residents are on edge.

"Last night I was up till midnight with my kids. My son didn't want to go to sleep what if we get robbed, you know. said Bridgeton resident Betty Lou Williams. "It's scary for a parent and for kids because you're scared, and you gotta convince your kids not to be scared."
