Authorities in New Jersey are looking for a disbarred New York City lawyer accused of stealing funds from a client.
Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli announced Monday that an arrest warrant has been issued for 47-year-old Jeffrey Squitieri of Brooklyn. Squitieri will face charges of theft, forgery and unlawful disposition of entrusted property and his bail will be set at $300,000 cash.
Molinelli says an investigation by his office revealed that in December 2009, while practicing as a licensed attorney in New York City and Englewood Cliffs, Squitieri diverted more than $75,000 from a client's personal injury insurance settlement for his personal use.
Squitieri was disbarred as an attorney in January 2013, and the alleged theft was referred to Molinelli's office by the New Jersey Office of Attorney Ethics.
