Police And Firefighters Practice Active Shooter Drill

Posted: Updated:
REDWOOD CITY, CA -

Redwood City, Calif.-Police and Firefighters spent the day at an elementary school preparing for the worse in California. Everywhere you could turn around Roosevelt School in Redwood City there were police, fire trucks and swat teams on the move.

Capt. John Spicer of Redwood City Police said, “We’re participating in a mass casualty active shooter exercise.”

This active shooter drill was planned months in advance. Due to recent shootings in Seattle, Santa Barbara and Sandy Hook authorities want to be able to respond to such situations in a timely fashion.

“It could happen here so we have to be as good as we possibly can in responding to it” said Capt. Spicer.

The blue print of this drill was closely guarded. Neither police nor volunteer victims knew what would happen ahead of time.

The purpose of the drill is to make it close to as a real active shooter situation as possible. The drill was so detailed to the point that the volunteer victims wore make-up wounds.

This was the first time police officers and firefighters drilled together with the focus on creating a warm zone. The Warm zone is a safe place to treat the injured quickly.

This is good practice for something they hope they’ll never need.
