Gun Robbery, Shooting May Be Linked To Spring Garden Case

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA - Police are looking for a man and woman responsible for a shooting and robbery outside a Northeast Philadelphia gun club, and they're investigating whether it may be connected to another robbery earlier in the week in Spring Garden.

On Friday, police released surveillance video from the first incident Wednesday at 6:40 p.m., when a 68-year-old male was robbed while getting into his car outside Yury's Gun Range, located at 544 North Percy Street.

Detectives say the footage shows one woman inside the business and possibly casing it, FOX 29's Dave Schratwieser reports.

Later, as a patron leaves, the two suspects exit a late-model, dark-colored coupe, possibly a Honda Accord, that was parked right in front of his.

The video shows the suspect approach the victim, one of them points a handgun in his face and takes a backpack containing two .22-caliber handguns. The other suspect removed items from the victim's pockets.

Police said the suspects drove off north on Percy Street and west on Green Street.

Then, at 8:38 p.m. Thursday, two suspects robbed two men in their late 60s of seven guns, including several revolvers, outside the Delaware Valley Sports Center in Northeast Philly.

During the course of this robbery, a male suspect shot one of the victims in his groin.

The 67-year-old victim was listed in critical condition at Aria Torresdale Hospital late Thursday evening.

Police say the suspects fled in a dark-colored car with heavily-tinted windows.

At one point officers thought they had tracked the robbers and getaway car to South Philadelphia, but they had the wrong vehicle.

"Fortunately, in this business area on Gieger Road, several of the businesses in the area, including the gun shop, have exterior surveillance cameras. Northeast Detectives are on location right now, viewing the footage. Hopefully the cameras can help us with our investigation," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

Schratwieser will have more details in a live report on the FOX 29 News at 5 & 6.
