Posted: Updated:
CHERRY HILL, N.J. -

A demolition takes a deadly turn, when part of the building comes down, trapping and killing a worker.

Rescuers pulled the body of the trapped construction worker out from underneath piles of rubble early Friday afternoon.

It was 12:30 p.m. when emergency crews got the call. The last wall left standing of this almost completely demolished Blockbuster building had collapsed onto a construction worker, pinning him head first under concrete and metal. Fire officials say the man was dead when they arrived just four minutes later.

The Cherry Hill fire director says three workers we're on the job when the wall came down.one man was operating a backhoe next to the wall. He was rushed to the hospital shaken but ok. The other worker was not hurt. Investigators do not know what caused the collapse, and OSHA is on the case.

Rescuers dug the victim's body out within hours. The lot is being cleared for a super Wawa. Officials say this is the first accident they know of on this site.
