Operation Cross Country Targets Sex Trafficking, Helps Victims

Posted: Updated:

SAN FRANCISCO, CA- It is called Operation Cross Country.

It's happened in 100 cities and has recovered almost 200 minors who turned to prostitution- often under the control of a pimp.

Police enter a hotel room where only moments before, this suspected prostitute had offered sex to a decoy cop for a few hundred dollars.

She is hustled out quickly, because more women are en route to this corridor for their own hook-ups- they've advertised online-

And more officers are waiting to pounce on what is a never ending flow of sex for sale,

In bay area hotels and apartments, and out on the streets, 80 women swept up.

One in three, are not arrested, but offered help.

"And we figure out what is the best course of action, one: to get them out of this lifestyle and two: to apprehend those that are exploiting them," said Lt. Kevin Wiley of the Oakland Police Department.

Pimps were rounded up too, including 13 of them in the Bay Area.

"No it is not a revolving door, we prosecute these adults who prey upon children to the fullest extent of the law," said Alameda County Assistant District Attorney Teresa Drenick.

The priority is finding the youngest ones.
