Asian Elephants Make Their Debut At The National Zoo

Posted: Updated:
Washington, D.C.-The National Zoo in Washington D.C. unveiled three new female Asian elephants on Monday.

"Kamala," "Swarna" and "Maharani" arrived last month from the Calgary Zoo in Canada. The elephants are now on display to the public for the first time after 30 days in quarantine.

They're still getting used to their surroundings, exploring their new home.

The National Zoo recently opened their 'Elephant Community Center' with a focus on Asian elephants. The center resembles an indoor elephant sandbox and includes a 5700 square foot barn, a pool and long walk-ways in between.
