Mother Shares Frightening Details About Car Being Stolen With Baby Inside

Posted: Updated:
Houston, TX -

The mother who had her 8-month-old baby girl stolen along with her car is speaking out for the first time.

It was just six seconds from the time Lashanna Hailey got out of her car, went into the gas station to grab a soda for someone to jump into her car with her baby inside.

She had left the vehicle running early Monday morning at 1:15 a.m. outside a North Houston gas station with her baby girl, Genesis Hailey, inside the vehicle. “I thought I was going to go crazy,” says Lashanna Hailey.

”When he drove away in my car I just screamed, yelled to God, screamed,” adds Hailey.

She chased the car, but couldn’t catch it then ran back into the store for help because she didn’t have her cell phone. When no one would call 911 Hailey ran two miles to her apartment, kicked in the front door because the car thief had her keys and she called 911.

Two hours later her car turned up a few miles away. “When they told me they found my car and my baby was not inside that was the worst part,” explains Hailey.

With heavy rain on the way and with time ticking away three hours passed, then four, then six hours and little Genesis Hailey was still nowhere to be found.

“All I did was pray, pray and pray”. In fact, she prayed and cried so much in that seven hours her baby girl was missing her voice is hoarse now but her family members say they talked to God when she couldn't. “I was like I pray to God they find her before the rain,” says Hailey’s sisters Alethea Jackson. “She could have drowned in her car seat,” adds Hailey.

Hailey realizes many horrible things could have happened, but somehow her baby was spared.

“How happy I am to have my baby because all stories don't end up this way,” she said.

This mom says she hopes the man who stole her baby will be caught soon. She also says she's forever grateful to Houston police officer Albert Pizana who swaddled her daughter in his uniform shirt.

She add she will always be thankful to Hong Nguyen, the woman who went jogging down the isolated road and found her baby crying in the woods.

“She's not even from here. She really doesn't even jog. So God placed it on her heart to go jogging that day. My baby has Mariah Carey lungs. She can cry and I’m so thankful she heard my baby cry,” smiles Hailey.

Hailey says it's no accident her baby Genesis, who is named after the first book of the bible and whose middle name means gift from God, was saved. She says it's a miracle.

”My baby was covered in the blood of God. I'm so happy to have her here. I don't know what I would have done if I would have lost my baby. She's my world. I love her so much”. Now to the question everyone has, why did she leave her baby alone in the car? Hailey says her daughter was asleep and she thought she could quickly duck into the store for a soda and come right back out but that didn’t happen.

Here's what she learned in all of this. ”Just don't ever leave your baby in the car. I think that was the dumbest decision of my life and that decision changed my world”.
