Woman Uses Bat To Fend Off Serial Bedroom Intruder

Posted: Updated:
UPPER DARBY, Pa. -

Women in Upper Darby are on edge after another home break-in. The latest incident happened on Friday at 10:15 p.m.

Upper Darby Police say the intruder is targeting women who are home alone in the Stonehurst section of the township.

The break-ins happened on Seaford Road, Guilford Road and Atlantic Avenue, which are all within blocks of each other.

All of the cases are the same, police say, a man is found inside woman’s’ bedrooms in the middle of the night, sometimes wearing a surgical mask.

According to police, in one case, the intruder was caught fondling one of victims.

“It scares me because we have a lot of young women in this neighborhood,” said resident Latasha Benn.

The latest attack was thwarted on Friday night on the 7000 block of Clinton Road. That’s when a brave 52-year-old woman woke up to the man staring at her in bed. She then used a baseball bat to chase the intruder out the door.

"It's scary because there is times I’m home alone and it's right across the street and it's happening. And it makes me nervous,” said resident Tanya Coursey.

Police believe the man may live in the area, and may be stalking some of the victims since there is no forced entry. According to police, the intruder may be looking for unlocked doors.

"It seems as if he is targeting women with no man around. You know very vulnerable. In my case, I have a husband, so he's always waiting,” said Coursey.

Police describe the intruder as a black male in his early 20's, 5’8”-5’10” with a mustache, goatee and a gap between his front teeth. Authorities say he may go by the nickname “Rel.”
