South Carolina Girl’s Stolen Volkswagen Beetle Found

Posted: Updated:

Greenville, SC- A little girl from South Carolina had big dreams for her vintage VW car until it was stolen.

It might not look like much, but the 1967 Volkswagen Beetle is something that 10-year-old Lisa Tucker is proud of.

It’s her baby and also her project.

Lisa spent years saving up $2,000 for the car, hoping to restore it with her father. And when she was old enough, she wanted to drive that car.

"I got home and I got out of the car and just screamed," said Lisa.

Thankfully, she now has it back after it was stolen last Tuesday morning from their driveway.

After word got out about the car being stolen, Lisa’s mother, Joy Tucker, says the whole community pitched in.

"We drove around trying to find the car, and we had some anonymous tips,” said Joy.

The family says there were several tips that led them down a dirt road in town.

"We're not really sure, they didn't want to leave any names, it was more than one, so it made me feel good that there were honest people out there to help us out and lead us to the car,” said Joy.

The car was found behind a wooden shed.

Deputies came and processed the scene, but once they were done, Lisa got her dream car back.

Granted, it’s not in the shape it was in. The car has been stripped of its VIN number, the lights were taken out, and there’s been some obvious work on it done in the past several days.

"You can tell they tried to put it in disguise because they tried to spray paint it, they spray painted the wheels, they used to be gold and now they're silver, put new hub caps on them," said Lisa. "I want to keep it under my bed, close to me, I'm going to sleep in it, and I'm going to have a long ramp up to my room."
