13-Year Old Girl Struck By Stray Bullet In Winslow Township

Posted: Updated:

Camden County Prosecutors are investigating a gun fire accident in Winslow Township that left a teenager in the hospital.

Police say two houses on Hathaway Drive were hit by bullets fired from outside on Heyworth Drive.

One shot went through a wall into the corner house into the bedroom of 13-year old Tiya Hudson. While sleeping, the stray bullet hit her in the behind. Several other children in same bedroom were asleep at the time of the incident.

This accident happened inside Betty Hudson’s home. She adopted four girls when they were infants now they are sisters.

Tonii Hudson, Tiya’s older sister, says she came into her mother’s room after she heard the gun shots.

“I heard a lady scream and then I heard my sister scream. When I came out, I saw my sister crawling to me saying she got shot and she started crying saying she was going to die,” Tonii said.

“It’s crazy that we were in bed. We were not at the wrong place at the wrong time,” Betty said.

FOX 29's Steve Keeley says the scene could have been a lot worse. Neighbors say many bullets were fired. Police were unsure of the exact number.

One woman thought she was shot because she got hit by debris when the bullets came through her bedroom wall.

Tiya is in stable condition and recovering at Cooper Hospital.
