Towamencin Township Pool Closed Due To Vandalism

TOWAMENCIN, Pa. -

A suburban pool has been forced to close after a dangerous act of vandalism.

This Towamencin Township pool should be filled with water, along with dozens of people trying to stay cool on a 90 degree day.

"I was just on my way home from work and all I could think about when I got home was getting into my suit and jump in that pool,” said resident Laura Swift.

Swift's plans changed after township officials say the pool manager found several pieces of broken glass in two of the three pools, which prompted the pools to be shut down.

“I’m just glad I didn’t bring my granddaughter over here and have her jump in and that they were able to find it. I think it's disgusting, really,” said Swift.

Towamencin Police say someone scaled the fence and broke several glass bottles at the water's edge.

As if that's not bad enough, police say, the vandal even tossed a traffic cone and reflector in as well.

"The loss of the use of the facility is a major issue for the township and the community and you also have a swim team that practices there so they lose practice time as well,” said Towamencin Police Officer Tim Dickinson.

Crews spent most of the day cleaning up the mess. And hundreds of pool club members hope they can get back in soon.

The snack bar is also shut down. Police are still investigating the incident and do not have any suspects.

The pool is expected to reopen tomorrow.
