Police: Teens Robbed Taxi Cab Driver In Center City

Posted: Updated:

Philadelphia Police are looking for two teens who robbed a taxi cab driver in Center City.

On Saturday, July 5, 2014, at 5:30 am, the taxi driver, a 42 year-old male, was sitting in his cab at the taxi stand behind the Marriott Hotel located at 1200 Filbert Street when he was approached by a group of teenagers.

The teens asked for a ride to Broad Street and Lehigh Avenue and began to climb in the cab.

After the driver told the men that he can only drive four people at a time due to regulation, one of the men threw a water bottle at the complainants head while another reached into the cab taking the complainant's cell phone.

After taking the driver’s cell phone, the suspects fled and were last seen south on 13th Street then west on Commerce Street towards City Hall.

Police describe suspect #1 as a Black male, 17 years-of-age, 5'4"-5'5" wearing a white t-shirt. Suspect #2 is a Black male, 17 years-of-age, 5'4"-5'5" wearing a blue/black t-shirt.

If you have any information about this crime or these suspects, please contact Central Detective Division Det. McCaffery #980 at 215-686-3093.
