More Thunderstorms Move In, Prompt Watch Until 10 P.M.

Posted: Updated:

A day after powerful winds knocked down trees – crushing cars, blocking streets and leaving many still without power – another round of scattered storms is on the way.

Most of the Philadelphia area is now under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 10 p.m.

CHECK: Latest Weather Warnings, Watches

SIGN UP: Get Severe Weather Text Alerts

The watch area extends from Massachusetts and Vermont down to Virginia, and it includes all of our local communities except Cape May, N.J., and Sussex County, Delaware.

The weather service says scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph are possible along with isolated large hail events to 1 inch in diameter.

WATCH LIVE: Ultimate Doppler Radar

Before dinnertime, the coverage and intensity of the storms was gradually increasing across the region, with moisture in the air and afternoon heating. Conditions will remain favorable for storms for several hours.

A watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce tornadoes.
