Police Investigate Death Of Glee Star's Boyfriend

Posted: Updated:

A Philadelphia business trip, turns into a Hollywood mystery.

A popular night club owner, and the boyfriend of a Glee star, is found dead inside a local hotel room.

Now police want to know what he was doing the night before he died.

Police say it was just after noon on Thursday when someone from housekeeping at the hotel Monaco entered the room of 31-year-old Los Angeles nightclub owner Matt Bendik.

Medics made several attempts to revive the boyfriend of Glee star Becca Tobin, but were unsuccessful. Tobin was not at the hotel at the time. Bendik's body was taken to the medical examiner's office in University City for an autopsy.

"Central detectives are investigating it as a sudden death, which we do with all sudden deaths or situations," said Philadelphia Police Lt. John Stanford, "at this point they have to wait for the medical examiner's report to return."

Bendik ran nightclubs across the country, including the DBA nightclub and the AV nightclub in Los Angeles. He was reportedly in Philadelphia scouting out a possible new business venture. Investigators are looking at the hours leading up to his death.

"Where he was located, any people may have been with him, those type of things in terms of what may have led to his death," said Stanford of the investigation.

Sources tell Fox 29 the autopsy room at the medical examiner's office was closed to all non-essential personnel including detectives there for investigations. Anyone entering the autopsy room area was required to turn over their cell phones.

"Anytime we have a situation like this we're on guard in terms of information because that's somebody's family member, that's something we want to be very conscious of," said Stanford.

Sources say no drugs, alcohol or drug paraphernalia were found in the Bendik's room.

"Who knows it could be a medical situation, it could be some other situation involved, that's all part of the investigation," Stanford added.
