CHICAGO-The Trio Animal Foundation in Chicago has been busy with their fair share of animal abuse cases.
Recently, workers say they retrieved a terribly matted and urine soaked dog from an open access shelter. According to the workers, the dog’s fur was so terribly groomed; they were unsure which side was the face at first.
Flies and gnats swarmed around the pup and what appeared to be the dog’s back legs dragged on the floor and left a watery trail. As it turned out, the dog had two very petite legs hidden underneath all the knotted fur and the outer appendages were just matted fur with debris.
Kelli, a veteran groomer at Mutt Hutt in Chicago, agreed to come into work very early to help. Kelli said the amount of grooming tools she had to use to break through the hard shell of fur was unbelievable.
Workers finally found out the matted pup was a girl and named her Ellen. For the next hour and a half, workers held Ellen, and Kelli quickly worked to shave the heavy casing of fur away from Ellen’s body. Two pounds of fur was shaved away. When almost all of Ellen’s fur was shaved off, she was given a bath, and then one more trim. Ellen then went through some tests and received her vaccinations.
If you are interested in adopting this 8.5 pound, around 2-year-old girl, please fill out an adoption application at www.projectrescuechicago.org .
Once Ellen receives a clean bill of health from TAF’s vet, she will be spayed and ready for her new forever home.
